Greetings,

While in Germany this summer I decided I needed a shrine in my backyard. If you have traveled in Europe you will have seen the small coverings with religious items along paths. My father-in-law built one for me and I just recently planted a pole and attached the shrine. It looks great!

There is one problem! It is empty! I have ordered an icon of Our Lady, but it has not yet arrived. As I work in the backyard, raking leaves, I look over at the empty shrine and it can be seen clearly that something is missing.

As I thought about this I have come to see this empty shrine as a great symbol of the emptiness that is in many of our lives. However, unlike my having to wait for the delivery person to drop by with the icon, the shrine of our hearts can be filled by God at any time by our simply inviting God in.

What are the empty places in our lives? God waits to fill them!

Grace and Peace,

Dale+
