Men's Bible Study
This group meets on the first and third Saturday of each month at 8:00 a.m. for a hearty breakfast and a time of Bible study and informative discussion. All men of St. John's are invited to attend. If you are interested call Joe Blankenship or just show up on the Saturday they meet.

Bible Study Group
The Bible Study Group meets each Thursday at 12:45 p.m.  Please call  the church office for further information. Our first meeting this Fall is on September 11.

Episcopal Church Women
ECW is a community of women of all ages, origins, and socio-economic circumstances. Every woman in the church is considered a member of the ECW and is welcome to participate in whatever manner their gifts, talents, and time enable them.

Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month, September through May at 7:30 p.m. in the parish hall. These meetings include educational programs focused on moving the group along in its efforts to carry out Christ's work. There is the opportunity for volunteering at the church and/or within the Chester community. The major fund-raising effort is the Spring Fashion Show and luncheon. The profits from this event are shared with many different organizations both within the church as well as in the local and state communities to carry out Christ's work.

Prayer Ministry
The members of the Prayer Ministry meet every other Thursday at l0 a.m. offering prayers for friends and loved ones of the congregation as well as other concerns of the community and the world. The members send out prayer cards to the sick and those in need and also have a short reflection and discussion of some passage from scripture or other readings.

Junior Episcopal Youth Community
Sixth, seventh, and eighth graders are invited to participate in the Junior Episcopal community. The purpose of the Junior EYC is to make the teachings of Christ real to young people through service to the church and community and fellowship with one another.

Senior Episcopal Youth Community
Ninth through Twelfth graders are invited to participate in the Senior Episcopal community. The purpose of the Senior EYC is also to combine service to the church and community with fellowship with one another.

The Altar Guild
Provides the reverent care of the sanctuary, the sacred vessels, baptismal bowl, alms basin, linens, silver and brass Church appointments, seasonal hangings used in the chancel and the Rector's vestments. The members prepare the sanctuary, the hymn boards, and the flowers that adorn the Retable each Sunday. Members of the Altar Guild assist the Rector during baptisms, weddings, funerals, and other occasional services throughout the Church year. Meetings are held on the third Saturday each month.

Music

St. John's Church historically has made a commitment to mission through music.  Our church has a wonderful pipe organ that leads and supports congregational singing.  We have an active choir program and encourage all to share their talents to the glory of God.  The organist/choir director invites interested singers and instrumentalists to become part of the music ministry.

SANCTUARY CHOIR - The sanctuary choir sings weekly during the 11:00 A.M. service. Weekly rehearsals begin just before Labor Day and continue through May.  Rehearsals are scheduled each Wednesday from 7:30 until 9:00 P.M.  Vocal and instrumental soloists and small ensembles serve the congregation's musical worship needs during the summer months.

PRAISE CHOIR - A less formal singing group rehearses on the second Tuesday of each month in the church from 7:30-9:00 P.M.  This choir sings more contemporary music to the accompaniment of piano, guitars, and other instruments for the 9:00 A.M. Sunday Family Service.

MELODY CHIME ENSEMBLE - The Melody Chime Ensemble was established in 2008 as a result of a financial bequest to the church. The ensemble consists of eleven members and rehearses twice a month, playing an Intriot once a month for the 11:00 A.M. service. Membership is open and requies no previous musical training. Substitute players are always needed. Call Paul R. Bartsch, 804-732-6879 for further information.

Outreach

The outreach program is a vital and active part of the church's activities. Outreach is an ongoing activity of many organizations within the church including the "Joy Commission"; ECW, and members of our Junior and Senior EYC. A variety of opportunities to serve God by serving our neighbors is offered during the year and presents the individual the chance to select those they feel called to support. Some opportunities require only a donation of money, clothing, or specific items. Other opportunities require a personal commitment of time and talent.
