The new church directories have arrived and may be picked up after the 8 AM and 10 AM Sunday morning services.
Outreach guest speaker Kim Hill, from the Chesterfield Food Bank (CFB), spoke to the congregation on March 9. Outreach guest speaker Lou Markwith from Redeemer Midlothian spoke to the congreation on March 2. Lou is the local coordinator for RAM (Remote Area Medical) - a medical intervention for residents of the Appalachian region of VA who do not receive regular medical or dental care. St. John's will partner with Redeemer and be in Wise county July 13 - 19. Our youth will participate the first week, and adults will participate the second week. Young adults over the age of 14 are eligible to participate. There is a place for everyone to help - medical and non-medical volunteers are needed. If you are interested, contact Fr. Outreach guest speaker, Deacon Becki Dean, spoke to the congregation on March 23. She reminded us that St. John's is like a hiker's base camp as we make our way in life. Becki also spoke of the genesis of the Gathering Place street ministry. Additional information about this ministry can be found below.
Thursday Afternoons at St. John's: The weekly Bible Study and Evening Prayer meets on Thursdays in Dale's office at 3:00 pm for conversation on the upcoming Sunday's scripture lesson. Evening Prayer is said at 5:00 pm. The Nave is open at 4:30 pm for personal prayer and reflection.
The Gathering Place: join middle and high school youth at 1:45 pm in the church parking lot the 4th Sunday of each month on to travel to the Gathering Place for worship and fellowship. We will return by 4:00 pm.
Prayer Shawl Ministry: If you are interested in participating in this ministry, contact Sherry at firstname.lastname@example.org. You can support the needle workers with contributions to purchase yarn. A jar is on the table at the entrance to the Nave. If using a check, put Prayer Shawl in the memo line Yarn contributions are also helpful.
Used Book Sale: Gently-used books are in need of a home in the parish hall.
Men's Bible Study: Group meets the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month at 8:00 am in the parish hall for breakfast and lively discussion. All men of the church are invited to attend. Bingo Prizes Needed : We are in need of prizes to give out to our friends at Lucy Corr during games of Bingo. Appropriate prizes include sugar-free cookies (no hard candy), socks, lap blankets, large print books, puzzles, or word-search books, boxes of tissues, hand sanitizer, hand lotion, small stuffed animals.If you can provide any of these prizes, please bring them to the church office.
Birthday Box: The Birthday Box is probably Outreach’s oldest project first started over 20 years ago. It is in the back of the nave waiting for kind people to feed it in celebration of a birthday or other special occasion. Each quarter, Outreach selects an animal gift from Heifer International to purchase with the money people have given.
Martha's Pantry: Our food focus for April is spaghetti dinner products. Donation boxes are located in the narthex and outside the church office.
